This is a meze that I always get when on holiday in Greece – this served with warm pitta before you get your gyros or souvlaki with Greek Salad and a pint of Mythos sat in the sun is simply heaven.

This is something I always make plenty of at BBQ’s to throw on the table for people to nibble on and always goes down a treat.

Is this the Greek version of the indian dish Raita…?

Ingredients

  • 150g Greek Yogurt
  • ½ Cucumber
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Chopped Fresh Mint
  • ½ tsp Salt

Method

Step 1

Cut the cucumber in half length ways and de-seed using a teaspoon and then grate into a sieve.

Step 2

Sprinkle the salt over the cucumber and mix around - now place the sieve over a bowl to drain/draw out as much water out as possible. If you place a dish or bowl on top and wait 30 minutes, it should be long enough...

Step 3

Finally mix all the ingredients together in a bowl then bring and chill in the fridge until ready to serve.

I just like cooking great food..
